Subject: Summer Activities and Summer Lovin' Fun Council Patch Program

Summer is almost here, and for many of you, that means an end to regular Girl Scout meetings. But before you decide to stop meeting for the summer, take a moment. There are some good reasons for troop or group program to continue on through the summer. They include, but are not limited to:

  • program maintains progression
  • an incentive to re-register in the fall
  • summer weather in the Pacific Northwest is the best!
  • extended daylight hours are available
  • adult assistance can come from those not available the rest of the year

There is no dishonor in disbanding for the summer. It is a time when leaders and girls can be tired or need a break. But if you are disbanding just out of habit or because everyone else is, think about the following points and consider continuing program during the summer months.

  • Programming may be flexible. It may take place only once a month, every two weeks, or weekly. The frequency depends on the girls, adults and plans.
  • Attendance of the whole troop or group may not be possible, but that's OK! Plan activities where variable participation is acceptable.
  • The purpose of activities may be skill-based, field trips, a special interest or just to have fun!

We have included a packet of ideas for summer activities and the Summer Lovin’ Fun Council Patch Program information and patch order form. Whatever you choose to do this summer, we hope it is a safe and happy time for all of you!
