WAGGGS & WORLD FRIENDSHIP

Introduction

The W.A.G.G.G.S.' Mission is:

To enable girls and young women to develop to their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world.  The new tagline "girls worldwide say" was introduced at the 2005 World Conference.

These pages contain information about the international aspects of Girl Scouting. When World Thinking Day events are held, it is important to work with the girls to identify other resources and ways of learning about international friendship and developing international awareness.

Inherent in the Girl Scout Law is the promotion of understanding and friendship among people. It is a valuable and interesting adventure to find opportunities to know and appreciate people at home, in our community, in our country and our world. Family, troop/group, neighborhood and community are stepping stones along the path of friendship. Reaching beyond the community and learning about people of the world is an important part of Girl Scouting. We are the only organization for girls that is worldwide. If a Girl Scout feels she is a sister to many other girls and women of the world wearing the same membership pin, she is doing her best to cement the desire of all people for world peace.

Now we are in the 21st century, and physical distance between points on our earth become less of a barrier between people because of improved transportation. Greater mobility increases the need for more personal adaptability and the ability to get along with all people.

Pluralism, promoting respect for and appreciation of the religious, racial, ethnic, social, economic and special needs of diverse populations is embracing cultural diversity. International friendship and awareness is another dimension of pluralism. By encouraging girls and adults to plan and implement activities with an international focus, we hope human understanding and relationships will be expanded. Through Girl Scouting we can have a better world.
