Destinations are for individual Girl Scouts - Click for Troop Travel Information

What is a Destination?

Destinations are exciting traveling opportunities available to individual older Girl Scouts, and are designed to offer them  opportunities to participate in a variety of diverse and challenging activities. (Targeted primarily for 13-17 year olds, but age limits vary depending upon the actual event).

Destinations are applied for individually, through an application process. Girls are selected from a pool of applicants and for some events competition may be very stiff.

Destinations allow an individual girl to travel Nationally and Internationally. Our council also sponsors trips a little closer to home and of shorter duration that we call Mini-destinations. These include trips listed to the right and Patrol’s to new and different destinations.

Costs vary widely depending upon the event and all fund raising is the responsibility of the individual girl.

I am willing to eat new or unfamiliar foods, sleep in small groups and play with all girls, not just best friends.

Destinations

National destinations...Seek out your dream - take on the challenge and apply to National destinations. This is your opportunity to travel to your dream event around the United States.  No waiting for the troop to decide to go - this you do on your own!  Do you want to learn to scuba dive? canoe the Minnesota lakes? learn about Juliette Low's lifetime?  see theater in New York?  Now is the chance to visit a new Destination.

International destinations...follow the same application procedure for National Destinations.  However, the list of International destinations (or specifically which USA council to mail your application to) doesn't appear online until November or December.  All girls traveling outside the USA must be 14 years of age.

How to apply:
bullet A list of upcoming destinations is available online on the  Destinations page of the STUDIO 2B website.  Check out all the possibilities!
bulletMinimum age: 11 year old.   Girls choose the adventure they would like to apply for, making sure they fulfill requirements for that particular Destination (i.e.-age, experience, fitness).  All girls traveling outside the USA must be 14 years of age.
bulletPrint application forms from online site.
bulletFill out the application. Remember, the only thing the host council will know about you is what appears on that application - sell yourself!
bulletMust attend Destination Weekend 1  held in the fall.
bulletApplication rough draft is due into the Eugene service center 1 week before DW1.
bullet2 references required -  ask adults who know you have the skills for the trip (travel, leadership, experience) and will return the forms in a timely manner. Possible references: your Girl Scout Leader, teachers, church leader.
bulletFINAL DRAFT of APPLICATION, AND YOUR REFERENCES MUST BE RECEIVED AT COUNCIL SERVICE CENTER BY NOVEMBER 16. Our Council needs to sign and then forward the application to the council hosting the event.
bulletGirls will hear in January/February if their application is accepted.
bulletIf, and when the girls are accepted to their destination, attendance is required at Destination Weekend 2  held at GSWRC Annual Meeting April 12th 2008 at the Royal Caribbean Call Center in Springfield.
