Coming Fall 2008
The New Girl Scout Leadership Experience debuts with the "It's
Your World--Change It!" launch journeys.
Wondering what to do right now?
Don't worry!
Keep using all existing Girl Scout books and awards with girls. They will
remain available even after the launch of the new materials in fall 2008, giving
everyone time to transition.
Live the Girl Scout leadership philosophy!
Engage girls in activities that develop their unique skills and values
(Discover), enable them to team up together (Connect), and make a difference in
the world around them (Take Action).
Spread the excitement!
Girl Scouting is and always has been first and foremost about leadership
development for girls. Repurpose this and other "teaser" emails and send them to
your staff, volunteers, girls and their families.
Stay tuned to get a peek at Girl Scout Seniors.

LEADER REMINDERS...
As a non-profit organization, our council (that’s us) is bound by state and
federal tax laws. Thank you for ensuring that we are in compliance by keeping
the following in mind…
 | TROOP MONEY – all money held by the troop, including product sales
troop incentives, is the property of the troop as part of the council. The
money is to be used for troop activities and cannot be divided nor credited to
girls on the basis of individual product sales, dues payments or other
“accounting” methods. |
 | MONEY EARNING PROJECTS –
A Request to Conduct a Money Earning Project form (see page 17 of your
Troop Notebook) is required in advance of each money-earning project. Please
note that you will also need to submit a summary after your project is done. |
Contact your staff if you have any questions about these or other policies.
We are glad to assist you!

Sacred Heart Time
Capsule
A half-century from now, some of the first babies born at Sacred
Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in 2008 will themselves be grandparents.
what will Health care look like in 2058? What type of medical advances and
technology will be available? Will cancer still exist?
As Sacred Heart Medical Center prepares to open it's brand new 1.2 million
square foot regional medical center, an effort is under way to gather items for
three separate time capsules at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend that
will be opened in 2058. The capsules will fit inside a 37-by-47-by-47-inch
vault that will be sealed into the clock tower at the juncture of the hospital
and Oregon Heart & Vascular Institute during the grand opening ceremony on July
18, 2008.
Ideas for what to include in these 50-year time capsules are currently being
collected from hospital employees and community members. Sacred Heart
would like to dedicate one time capsule to ideas from children in our regional
area and that is where we'd like your help! We're collecting various
items, pictures drawings and essays featuring creative ideas about the future of
health care.
Space is limited, but we will try to accommodate as many items as possible.
Please submit your plans or ideas for this project to
rramberg@peacehealth.org or call
(541) 686-6868 for more information. Entries are due by June 1st, 2008.
Thank you for helping us send important messages to 2058.
Sincerely,
Roz Ramberg

Down by the
Riverside
A SOLV watershed program to beautify and enhance our waters ways in
Oregon.
Lead a Down By The Riverside project on May 17, 2008!
SOLV’s annual Down By The Riverside began in 1996 to address community
needs after the floods. The event has evolved to meet the needs of all
Oregonians to include city wide cleanups, invasive plant pulls, student
gardens, cemetery cleanups, and other restoration and beautification
projects that enhance the public spaces where we play, learn, reflect and
relax.
At this fun volunteer event community members learn about their personal
impact on local watersheds, important work is accomplished, and people build
stronger bonds with one another.
It’s a Bad Year for Invasives!
This year for Down By The Riverside, SOLV is collaborating with
OPB and
The Nature Conservancy
to follow up the spring airing of
“The
Silent Invasion” on April 22nd, a documentary about invasive
species, with volunteer invasive plant projects.
Please consider leading a project on May 17, 2008 to increase the awareness
of all Oregonians about the dangers of invasive species to our state.
Register online today or call Sara at 800-333-SOLV for more information
or to receive a registration packet in the mail. Deadline for registering
projects is February 29th, 2008.
