Loon Lake Weekend: Linking Girls with The Land
May 16-18, 2008
Cost: $4/girl and adult (or $3/adult w/o patch)

It’s time for Loon Lake 2008! This is our last year as Western Rivers Council, so let’s make Loon Lake special. All current and past Girl Scouts are invited for a fun filled weekend with the campground all to our selves. All we have to do is a one hour service project.

Come spend the weekend practicing outdoor skills, making friends and having fun. Plan your own activities, or enjoy a day of troop activities that are all planned and staffed by BLM. Activity stations will include hikes, forest ecology, trees, plants, animals, a scavenger hunt, games and crafts. There will be swimming and canoeing, a cooking potluck on Saturday night- (More info to follow)

Each girl will earn the Linking Girls With The Land Patch and a special camping patch; all activity stations will count towards the Fun in the Forest try it, or Forest Explorer Badge.

Each troop will be responsible for bringing a portion of the Saturday night meal (to be assigned later), their own food for the remaining meals, and their own firewood. This camping weekend is meant to be a traditional TENT camping trip, no RV’s please. Each group will be assigned one campsite, but side by side sites will be allocated for larger troops. Parking for multiple cars is very limited.

There will be a lifeguard, provided by Girl scouts, during designated swim times only.
All adults attending will need to be registered and have a background check. Please attach all paper work and turn it in to the North Bend Girl Scout Office as soon as possible. Registration Form and Application for Day Trips,  Overnights and Camping Due No later than April 15th.
For more information please contact Niki Graham 396-4164 or the North Bend Girl Scout Office 756-4626.

May 17 Down by the Riverside
A SOLV watershed program to beautify and enhance our waters ways in Oregon.
Lead a Down By The Riverside project on May 17, 2008!

SOLV’s annual Down By The Riverside began in 1996 to address community needs after the floods. The event has evolved to meet the needs of all Oregonians to include city wide cleanups, invasive plant pulls, student gardens, cemetery cleanups, and other restoration and beautification projects that enhance the public spaces where we play, learn, reflect and relax.

At this fun volunteer event community members learn about their personal impact on local watersheds, important work is accomplished, and people build stronger bonds with one another.

It’s a Bad Year for Invasives!
This year for Down By The Riverside, SOLV is collaborating with OPB and The Nature Conservancy to follow up the spring airing of “The Silent Invasion” on April 22nd, a documentary about invasive species, with volunteer invasive plant projects.  Please consider leading a project on May 17, 2008 to increase the awareness of all Oregonians about the dangers of invasive species to our state.

Register online today or call Sara at 800-333-SOLV for more information or to receive a registration packet in the mail. Deadline for registering projects is February 29th, 2008.
