Girl Scout Weekend
Cultural Kitchen in Los Angeles Last year ~ troops from as far away as Cactus Pines GS Council in Arizona, to a troop from Reno, Nevada joined us for the program! We also had troops from the Angeles, Joshua Tree, Mt. Wilson Vista, San Fernando, Spanish Trails, and San Gorgonio Girl Scout Councils who came together for a weekend of culture. Girl Scout Weekend Cultural Kitchen Program dates for this next year have been set. We will learn about India, Korea, Chile, Greece, Egypt, and Japan while experiencing the cuisine and having a ton of fun. The following dates and focus countries are:
The program cost is $50 per person and includes an overnight stay at the HI-LA Southbay Hostel, the Cultural Kitchen Program, Saturday night dinner, Sunday morning breakfast and your Girl Scouts Go Hostelling Patch. To reserve space for your troop a $10 non-refundable deposit for each person attending the program is required. Full payment is due 30 days prior to each program and is non-refundable. Girl Scout Weekends are open to all Junior, Cadette, Senior and Ambassador girls. Each weekend program requires a minimum of 20 participants or it will be canceled. For an additional $25 per person you can come a day early or stay a day longer. Troops also have the option to attend a Program Orientation, have a tour of the HI-Santa Monica Hostel, and participate in the first session of the Cultural Kitchen Program at the HI-Santa Monica Hostel. The Orientation Programs take place on selected Saturday's at 1:30 p.m. Troops need to call ahead and reserve space. Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace in Savannah, Georgia Have you always dreamed of making a trip to Savannah to visit the Birthplace of Girl Scouts? Do you want to learn more about Juliette Gordon Low, Girl Scout history and Savannah? Make this your year to make your dream come true. What a better place to enjoy Girl Scouting than in Savannah, Georgia, where it all began. The Birthplace schedules several girl OR adult training events annually. So, choose a session to suit you and you are "Birthplace Bound." Explore the hometown of Girl Scouting with us! The Girl Scout Heritage Visit is a full day of fun activities for Junior, traditional Cadette, Senior or Girl Scout troops and Studio 2B groups. It includes an Orientation (a PowerPoint presentation) a tour of the parlor and bedroom floors of the historic house where Daisy was born, a daytime Special Interest Session, and a scheduled time to shop in the museum store and time for a Girl Scouts' Own in the garden. Girls explore Daisy's life and the early days of Girl Scouting through hands-on experiences during the Special Interest Sessions. In 2004, an elevator was installed in the historic house, making it accessible to all visitors with mobility challenges! The Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace offers the Girl Scout Heritage Visit Monday-Tuesday year 'round, Wednesdays from March - October, Thursday-Sundays year 'round. It is closed Wednesdays from November through February, the first two weeks in January, some Sundays and major holidays. The Birthplace is located at 10 East Oglethorpe Ave., on the corner of Oglethorpe Ave. and Bull St. in downtown Savannah. (912) 233-4501. Fax (912) 233-4659 birthplace@girlscouts.org. Sojourn in Savannah is a special training session for adults. It is your chance to visit Savannah, Daisy's hometown. This session is designed for individuals or council teams who are planning a troop or council trek to the Juliette Gordon Low Girl Scout National Center and for adults who have always dreamed to visit Juliette Low's Birthplace. Participants sample all Birthplace Special Interest Sessions, meet representatives from the Savannah area and coastal region attractions, tour the Birthplace and Savannah's historic district and explore long distance trip planning for Girl Scouts. A highlight of the event for many Sojourners is the chance to share ideas plans and hopes with Girl Scout adults from all over the country. Training sessions and fun activities are balanced with free time for investigating area resources, scheduled activities at area sites and an optional visit to the Girl Scout Council of Savannah's Camp Juliette Gordon Low, on Rose Dhu, a coastal barrier island.
